Shepherd’s Play and Holy Nights – December 28
Nov 16, 2020
The Oberufer Shepherd’s Play “Table Reading” A Holy Nights Celebration
12/16/2020
Dear ,
This year our ability to celebrate the Holy Nights together is of course to be severely limited by the Covid pandemic. And similarly, the traditional production of the Shepherd’s Play, as sponsored by the branch, likewise will not be possible this year.
We will once again resort to Zoom – on Monday, December 28th at 7:00 PM, we will meet using Zoom to “perform” a “table reading” of the Shepherd’s Play. This is an impromptu direct from the printed script reading aloud of the play – without costumes, makeup, or rehearsal! But with keeping the spirit of the Shepherd’s Play alive.
The casting for this is somewhat ad hoc also – a good handful of past performers of the play have expressed willingness to participate, but we need (at least) eleven cast members for each part to be read by a different cast member, so we will be looking for new cast participation – again, all you will need to do is read from the script.
Everyone is invited to participate, if interested! The only requirement is to download the PDF of the script and show up a half hour early.
We hope you will join us either as cast member or audience for this (quite likely!) never-to-be repeated format of the Shepherd’s Play, which has been performed continuously in Santa Cruz for over 25 years (at least). Children, friends and family members, local and out of town, are of course invited to attend (we have increased our Zoom seating count after hitting the ceiling at 100 for our last event).
Music will be provided through the midi files produced by the late Daniel Birns – you can sing along at home! (Choral singing does not work too well via Zoom.)
If you are interested in reading a part, please contact davideyes@gmail.com, who is coordinating the cast roles.
